Forty days and forty nights
since last I had you in my sight
dawn and dusk have both been dark
since the time came to embark.
It seemed all else under the sun
rode the waves beside someone,
two by two they'd all marched on
unaware of what was gone.
For weeks like years I searched the skies
the clouds hid where my future lies,
but while I hoped to come ashore
I saw the raven nevermore.
Until one day returned the dove
an olive branch brought from my love,
I found I was on firm, dry land
again you held me in your hand.
Forty days and forty nights
since last I had you in my sight
And now I am on firm, dry land
again I hold you in my hand.
Written in 1999, this song is about being away on a long journey.
Some people think it's about Noah's Ark, but I don't know where they get that from.
